Exterior paint question?

I have a VERY old playground in my yard that i would like to refurbish. I want to paint it a solid color (not wood) and i know i need some primer.
I’m just confused about exterior paint, does it come in different colors to paint with or is just like a protective coat??

Aklymroofing answers:

Yes, exterior paint comes in any color you want. Just pick a color from the color swatches and the paint store will mix up a formula suitable for whatever you are painting. You will probably have to sand the play-scape and you are right, you will have to prime first.

P.S. No offense to home improvement paint department employees, but I have gotten some elusive answers to pertinent questions. I have found that hardware stores that carry brand name paint have more experience to advise correct products for your project.

Good luck with your project.

Which would you pick for exterior paint… Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore or Glidden?

Used for Exterior house paint

Aklymroofing answers:

I like Behr the best. An excellent, thick paint. **Note: NO brand of paint will last without proper preparation. Remove any rotted wood. Scrape, sand, prime first. Also, darker colors in direct sun tend to not last as long, due to heat absorption.

re-chroming 12 year old plastic trim?

I have a 12 year old explorer XL. I’ve done everything I can to keep it looking brand new, and it does accept for a few plastic parts who’s paint is wearing off and fading. Is there any way to re-chrome the plastic trim around the grill and headlights? Is it just a matter of taking them off, sanding/steelwooling then repainting them?

Also is there anything I can do to revitalize the exterior faded black parts between the side windows and around the back corners? A chemical that I can wipe on, or a way to remove them so I can repaint them? I foolishly tried ArmorAll on them and it just makes a mess.

Concrete sealer which do I use?

What concrete sealer do I use for a stained concrete patio. And how do I apply it.

Aklymroofing answers:

Hey josh,

I actually work at The Home Depot and used/sold concrete stain and sealer for many years.

If you are referring to just a clear coat sealer without color, we (as well as other home centers) sell quite a decent selection to seal your concrete patio.

At least with us, the one’s we sell in our paint department is sold by Behr and one is by Thompson’s. The Behr brand is high-quality one that comes in a low-lustre or high gloss finish.

Most of my customers and painters ask for the Behr by name and since you are using it on a patio, I would recommend using the low-lustre finish, so as to prevent slipping and falling. Below is a link that has more info on it:
http://www.behr.com/Behr/home#vgnextoid=978a536658689110VgnVCM1000006f1010acRCRD;channel=PROJECT_CENTER;view=17

As to apply it, treat it like you would any exterior painting job, you can apply it by brush, roller, or even spray. A gallon of this and most sealers go for around 250-400 square feet for coverage.

If you have a big area, I would definitely recommend rolling it with a 9″ 1/2 inch nap roller or a pump sprayer made for exterior stains and clear coats. This product by Behr is waterproof, but still mask off areas and cover things you don’t want to be coated when applying the product.

Hope this helps you out,
